It's time to say so long to Seattle and take an Amtrak train north to Vancouver.
It was a sleek train that was the bargain of the trip. I think the four hour ride along the Puget Sound was $18 each.
As you can see from the signs under the Vancouver Station clock this is also the station where we will catch our VIA rail train on Friday.
We picked up our rental car here at the train station and found our way to the hotel. We were fortunate that GPS was in the car since we didn't pay for cellphone service in Canada.
After getting settled in we drove over to Stanley Park, an almost 1,000 acre park named after Lord Stanley of Stanley Cup fame and the most visited attraction in Vancouver.
The park includes totem poles, beaches, a waterfront walkway, hiking trails, sculptures, playing fields, tennis courts, a golf course, a zoo and a small scale train area. As you can see I was most taken with the totems.
Allan really wanted to check out the trains. As it would happen, that area was closed when we arrived. However, walking around to find it Sue had a visual encounter with a mother raccoon and several babies. Let's just say she may love bears but was not so fond of the raccoons.
